I’m seeing green tea being used in beauty products more and more, but it’s also easy to make your own at home. This matcha green tea face mask requires just three ingredients and is simple to make. I love the way it smells and how it makes my skin feel afterward. It also makes you look a bit like a swamp thing, so it’s fun to scare unsuspecting people.
Matcha is high in antioxidants, so it can help with inflammation and evening skin tone. Caffeine can also help to firm and tighten skin. Honey is also anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial. This mask is mildly abrasive but much gentler than coffee masks or scrubs. I have combination skin that is fairly sensitive and it has always worked well for me. Do not use it if you are allergic to tea or honey. Do not use this mask if you have sunburn or if your skin is broken.
How to Make a Matcha Green Tea Face Mask
You’ll use equal parts of all of the ingredients. If you use one teaspoon of matcha, you’ll need one teaspoon of honey and water. Keep this in mind so that you can adjust it based on how much of the mask you’ll need to make.
Matcha Green Tea Face Mask
This mask is made in a 1:1:1 ratio so that it can easily be adjusted for the amount of mask that you want to make. It should not be refrigerated or kept overnight.
Materials
- Matcha Green Tea (I recommend using culinary grade)
- Honey
- Warm Water
Tools
- Spoon
- Small Bowl
Instructions
- Spoon matcha into a bowl. There's no need to worry about sifting.
- Add honey to the green tea and stir to combine.
- Add warm water and stir. The texture should be about the same as a mud mask. Slowly add more water if it's too thick.
- Cleanse face and put hair up to get it out of the way.
- Smooth mask on face and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Gently wash off the mask with warm water.

This mask is easy to customize and change up for different needs. On hot summer days, I’ll swap out fresh aloe vera for the honey. You can also use it as a base for a DIY sugar scrub. Although it can be a bit messy, matcha does not usually stain. Water is all you’ll need to get it out of most surfaces.

Hi Nicole; I am lazy and I prefer to purchase face mask already made. That being said, it is cost and effective to make it and save money as I did almost purchase this green tea face mask set costing $6.99 at TJ Maxx but I passed up on it because I was spending too much already so I put it on a nearby shelf and moved on to check out. In hindsight, I should have purchased it and if I were to return to purchase these green tea face mask, they most likely will be gone; as well as the honey face cleanser that I had seen while there. What coincidence that you should be discussing face mask. Amazing, best with it all and keep doing wonderful things. Take care.
