I’ve often bemoaned the decrease in tea bloggers in recent years, but lately I’ve noticed a bit of a tea content resurgence. There are some really excellent writers and experts sharing their insights about tea on Substack. In this post, I’m sharing a list of some of my favorite tea writers on Substack.
Max Falkowitz – Leafhopper

Max Falkowitz is the author behind many of my favorite non-snobby tea articles in publications like Serious Eats and Saveur. The tea topics covered are varied and always insightful. I particularly enjoy the mini tea reviews that pop up from time to time. He’s always drinking something interesting.
Mike Newton – The Tea Letter

You might recognize Mike Newton from his blog by the same name. He transitioned to writing on Substack a few years ago, and I’ve been avidly reading ever since. Be sure to follow him on Threads as well! He’s been sharing some fascinating insights into home hojicha roasting.
William Dietz – Steep Insights

William Dietz is a tea consultant and the author of Spill The Tea: Unveiling The Mysteries of Blended, Flavored, and Herbal Teas. I really appreciate his thoughtful approach, especially when it comes to dispelling misconceptions and myths about the industry and tea in general.
Shabnam Weber – Between Leaves & Letters

Shabnam Weber is the president of the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada. She’s just started writing on Substack, but her posts have ranged from interesting personal insights to breaking industry developments. This is one to watch for keeping up with our rapidly changing tea world.
Amy Truong – PARU

I recently discovered a Substack written by Amy Truong. She is a TAC Tea Sommelier® and the founder of California-based tea company Paru. Digging through the archives led me to fascinating articles about her tea travels to places like Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Zach Mangan – Kettl Tea

Zach Mangan is the founder of Kettl Tea and author of Stories of Japanese Tea: The Regions, the Growers, and the Craft. His series about the matcha shortage was a helpful voice of reason from someone in touch with the Japanese tea supply chain.
