Tea Places: Ippodo Tea Co.

Tea Places: Ippodo Tea Co.

Ippodo Tea has been on my “to do” list for a while. I always seemed to be in their neighborhood outside of their business hours. This past weekend I got done with work early and I was determined to visit. Their space isn’t much more than a kiosk inside of the restaurant Kajitsu. It is still a Japanese tea lover’s dream. The selection was fairly small and on the high-end side of things. You won’t find teas like this in any other NYC tea shops.

The staff was incredibly friendly and they were all at the ready to answer any questions that I had. I was offered a small cup of matcha which was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. This isn’t a place that you can sit down to enjoy tea but they do offer cups to go. I purchased a small package of that same matcha, Tsukikage. The woman at the counter explained that it is a special type of matcha only available in the autumn. How pretty is that box? I am really looking forward to making this tea at home for my self. They will be having a matcha workshop in a few weeks and I’m going to try my best to attend.
