Erborian 3-in-1 Mask Matcha Green Tea Blast Mask

It’s not often that I write about beauty products here but I recently won a Twitter contest run by +Palais des Thés. I received a box of 8 packets of this mask as well as a box of their Sencha Ariake. I was definitely intrigued because one of the ingredients of the mask is powdered green tea from the Korean Boseong botanic garden. The packet contained a clay-like powder. It was fairly simple to use. Just add water, lather and apply. I have fairly sensitive combination skin so using new products can be dicey. It did have an exfoliating affect it was not irritating or overly abrasive. I was skeptical but I have to say that…

Le Palais des Thés Dong Ding Jade Oolong Tea

Country of Origin: Taiwan Leaf Appearance: deep green, tightly rolled Ingredients: oolong tea Steep time: 30 seconds Water Temperature: 195 Preparation Method: porcelain gaiwan Liquor: gold I’m not always a fan of jade style oolongs. They are often too green for me but this Dong Ding from +Palais des Thés had just the right amount of balance. Prominent floral notes gave way to a pleasant vegetal background. There was a sweetness that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Marzipan without the cherry? Toasted coconut? Needless to say, it was delicious! The mouth-feel was fairly thick with an almost buttery texture. It resteeped very well, staying strong through at least six infusions. This tea is…

Le Palais des Thés Long Jing Premium Green Tea 2014

Country of Origin: China Leaf Appearance: jade green, flat Ingredients: green tea Steep time: 4 minutes Water Temperature: 170 degrees Preparation Method: glass teapot Liquor: very pale gold Long Jing, also known as Dragonwell, is one of my favorite types of green tea. This particular one is from +Palais des Thés‘s Grand Cru collection. Although this is last year’s harvest, the leaves were still in fairly good shape. The taste was sweet with the signature nutty aroma that I have come to expect from this tea. That roastiness was accompanied by a pleasant vegetal quality that reminded me a bit of asparagus. There was also an interesting minerality that I wouldn’t have expected from…

Le Palais des Thés Tawaramine Shincha Ichibana 2014

Country of Origin: Japan Leaf Appearance: deep green, glossy Ingredients: green tea Steep time: 2 minutes Water Temperature: 160 degrees Preparation Method: kyusu Liquor: bright green Shincha is not a tea that I get to indulge in often, especially not one that is $115 for 3.5oz. The dry tea was beautiful to look at, needle-like with a glossy sheen. This tea is part of +Palais des Thés‘ Grand Cru line. I love the extra depth of information that they provide in the description on their website. It’s not often that you see a larger company name their farmer. A tea like this tastes very mellow at first but then the complexity unfolds after you…

Le Palais des Thés Feng Huang Dan Cong Special

Country of Origin: China Leaf Appearance: dark, wiry, twisted Ingredients: oolong tea Steep time: 6 minutes Water Temperature: 195 degrees Preparation Method: Teavana Perfect Steeper Liquor: amber I was really excited to try this selection from Le Palais des Thés’ Grand Cru collection. The name Feng Huang means Phoenix and Dan Cong refers to tea that originates from a single tree. This type of tea is usually categorized by fragrance and I wish that they had included that information. The taste was woodsy and spicy and if I let it cool for a bit a hint of stone fruit popped up in the background. Phoenix oolongs are renowned for their lingering floral aroma and…

Le Palais des Thés Pure Indulgence Lavender Oolong

Country of Origin: China Leaf Appearance: deep green, tightly rolled Ingredients: oolong, lavender blossoms Steep time: 5 minutes Water Temperature: 200 degrees Preparation Method: porcelain teacup and mesh infuser Liquor: gold I’m not usually one for floral teas so jasmine and rose usually don’t do it for me. Lavender on the other hand is a whole other story. There is just something about it that makes me incredibly relaxed. Paired with this Chinese oolong, they are a match made in heaven. The taste was very floral but not perfumy or soapy at all. The base tea was fairly green but had a really nice buttery quality to it. There was a lot of…
