Country of Origin:  Nepal
Leaf Appearance: mixed greens and browns, silvery tips
Water Temperature: 180 degrees
Steep Time: 4 minutes
Preparation Method: glass tea infuser
Liquor: pale gold

White Prakash from Nepal Tea Collective is a white tea from the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center in Nepal. For those unfamiliar, this tea estate was started by the father of Nishal (the founder of Nepal Tea Collective). During processing the leaves undergo withering before being rolled and then dried. That could make it more of an oolong depending on who you ask. For this review, we’ll consider it a white tea since that is how Nepal Tea Collective categorizes it.

Leaf

The dry leaf was a mixture of greens and browns with silvery buds mixed throughout. I prepared this tea in a glass infuser using Nepal Tea Collective’s recommendations, 2g of leaves in 8oz of 180℉ water for 4 minutes. There were tons of trichomes visible in my infuser as well as on the inside of my sample packet. Those little hairs always tell me I’m in for a treat. They protect tender tea buds from excess UV rays, but they also add a lot of sweetness to the cup.

Liquor

White Prakash brewed up a pale gold liquor. The taste was soft and sweet with a cooling, almost menthol-like cooling finish. There were notes of vanilla and honeysuckle that kept me wanting more after each sip. This tea was full-bodied for white tea so I would definitely recommend it for those who don’t typically enjoy subtle teas. I wouldn’t say it packs a punch since there is hardly any astringency, but it is aromatic and gives your palate something to grab onto.

Nepal Tea Collective’s website mentions that this tea would delight fans of Bai Mu Dan white tea or lighter Taiwanese oolong teas. I would have to agree with that assessment. Have you ever tried White Prakash? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
