The name Starbucks is generally synonymous with coffee but there are plenty of tea treats to be had, both on and off of the menu. In general Starbucksoffers Tazo’s line of teas.
Bagged Teas – these are available hot or as a shaken iced tea. The teas with asterisks are available as lattes. You can also ask for lemonade to be added to an iced tea if you are craving an Arnold Palmer style drink.
Awake – blend of black teas from India and Sri Lanka*
Calm – chamomile blossoms, lemon balm leaf, pink rose petals, spearmint and sarsaparilla
Refresh – peppermint, spearmint and tarragon
Earl Grey – black tea and bergamot*
Passion – hibiscus, lemongrass, rose hips, mango and passion fruit
Green Tea – green tea, mint, lemongrass and lemon verbena
China Green Tips – Mao Feng green tea (not available as a latte)
Orange Blossom – jasmine green tea, goji berries and tangerine peel
Vanilla Rooibos – rooibos, vanilla and cinnamon*
Lattes – these are available hot and iced. I prefer mine unsweetened.
Chai – spiced black tea blended with steamed milk
Matcha – sweetened matcha green tea blended with steamed milk
While their tea may not be the greatest, in many places it is the best that is available. I must confess that I have a major matcha latte addiction. It’s a great pick-me-up while I’m waiting for the bus home from work. Is there anything that I missed? Tell me your favorite Starbucks tea drink in the comments!
Postscript: This post was written weeks ago and was already cued to go live today when the tea world got some very exciting news. Starbucks has purchased Teavana for $620 million dollars. To read more about that ground breaking deal, check out this article from the Wall Street Journal.
So you had this written on a whim before you knew about the merge? Or did you have inside info? 😉
It was completely on a whim. I wish I did have the inside scoop though 😛
I see you have an asterisk next to the vanilla rooibos but I don't see what this refers to.
I want to note that their vanilla rooibos is the only tea bag that is sweetened in the bag. I do not like this, as I'm someone who likes to drink my tea unsweetened. I tried it once and found it quite objectionable to my tastes. So it's worth knowing this before you order one–it's fine if you like sweetened teas but if you don't want sweet, I recommend steering clear of that one.
The asterisk means that it is available as a latte. I have a sweet tooth so I didn't find that one quite as offensive but thanks for the warning!
wish they still had green ginger :/
I actually like their tea lattes. I too have a crazy sweet tooth.
I did read about the Teavana acquisition. So curious to see how this will affect the industry, and myself as a tea drinker.
I liked the green ginger too, Brandon!
Catherine, it will definitely be interesting to see what happens. I think that Starbucks corporate culture would be a big improvement to the one at Teavana.
One one hand, I think it's great that this acquisition will (hopefully) increase awareness of loose leaf tea in the U.S., but I'm not a fan of Teavana. Many mixed emotions! :/
This is VERY timely, indeed. I, personally, don't mind some of their teas. Still a fan of the Zen and Blueberry White. Their Earl Grey, though, is an insult.
I love their chai latte but it is indeed sweet – essentially a snack on its own. I will give Matcha a whirl.
Also, I really like their Earl Grey. The tin I bought says it contains lavender, too. Yummy…
Will tweet this.
