    Authentic Teas Orient Blend

Leaf Appearance: mostly small, sage green leaf pieces. The roasted wheat looked a lot like Smacks breakfast cereal. Ingredients:Roasted wheat, organic wild oregano, organic wild thyme, organic wild mint, organic wild elderflowers, organic wild St. John’s Wort flower, cinnamon, cloves Steep time: 5 minutes Water Temperature: 212 degrees Liquor: amber This herbal teasan had a really interesting flavor profile. It was spicy and sweet with a cooling aftertaste. The roasted wheat added a nuttiness that stayed in the background and let the spice shine. The sweetness of the flowers kept the spice from becoming overpowering. Mixing this many different tastes can be tricky but this blend was very well balanced. I would definitely recommend this…

    Authentic Teas Pomegranate Tea

Authentic Teas lists the ingredients of this teasan as including rose petals, pomegranate flowers and hibiscus. According to their site, these were used to improve respiratory and digestive health. The dry “tea” resembled potpourri with it’s pinkish color scheme and bounty of petals. The liquor was a vivid dark red in color, almost resembling wine. I made this tea in my Breville One-Touch Tea Maker with 212 degree water for five minutes.  This blend was very sweet and tart, almost a little too much so. The flavor reminded me very much of cranberries. I’m not a huge fan of pomegranate or hibiscus teas because they are a bit too tart for me. If you…

    Authentic Teas Mountain Melody

This herbal blend is comprised of organic wild oregano, organic wild thyme and organic wild elderflowers. The dry leaves looked and smelled like something right out of the spice rack. According to Authentic Teas’ site, it was used in ancient Armenia to promote respiratory health. I made this tea in my Breville One-Touch Tea Maker with 212 degree water for five minutes. The liquor was deep gold in color. This tea was herbaceous and spicy. The elderflowers added a bit of sweetness and kept it from being too hot to handle. Being from New Jersey, the land of pizza, I was craving a slice thanks to all of that oregano flavor. I’m always…

    Authentic Teas Ani Blend

The ingredients of this herbal blend include organic wild oregano, organic wild cherry leaves, organic wild black currant and hibiscus. Authentic Tea’s site states that this tea is used as a digestive remedy. The dry leaves are comprised mostly of very small, uniformly green leaves. I made this tea in my Breville One-Touch Tea Maker with 212 degree water for five minutes. The liquor was a very deep red in color. This tea was naturally sweet and refreshing. The cherry leaves and hibiscus added a bit of fruity tartness while the oregano and currant provided a mild spiciness. For some reason black liquorice candy kept coming to mind. I think it had something to do…

    Authentic Teas Armenian Blend

According to Authentic Teas’ blog, the ingredients of this tea were used by ancient herbalists as an anti-inflammatory especially for the treatment of colds and flu. That makes this tea particularly timely since I am fighting off a terrible cold. The ingredients of this herbal blend include wild mountain thyme and organic linden flowers. The dry leaves were small and sage green in appearance. I made this tea in my Breville One-Touch Tea Maker with 212 degree water for five minutes. The liquor was deep amber. I was really curious about this selection because I have never tried a tea with thyme or linden flowers. It was herbaceous but mild with a cooling…

    Authentic Teas Wild Mint

Like most of Authentic Tea’s offerings, this selection is USDA Organic and sourced from the Armenian highlands. The dry leaves were sage green in color and bore a close resemblance to catnip. This isn’t surprising since catnip is in the mind family. I made this tea in my Breville One-Touch Tea Maker with 212 degree water for five minutes. The liquor was a deep golden yellow. This tea was sweet and minty but not to the point of being bitter or medicinal tasting. Each sip was very refreshing with a very fresh aftertaste. This would make a perfect after dinner tea or summery iced tea. I love that it was so naturally sweet…
