Yunomi Takeo Autumn Houjicha
Leaf Appearance: larger, varied in size, twiggy
Ingredients: roasted green tea
Steep time: 3 minutes
Water Temperature: 180 degrees
Preparation Method: kyusu
Liquor: dark amber
I received this tea as part of shipment from +Yunomi.us's Tea Club. The dry leaves of this tea were interesting because they were larger and quite a bit more twiggy than other houjichas that I've tried. Houjicha is green tea has been fire roasted. This one was a particularly toasty and comforting cup. Earthy and mellow with an almost maple syrup-like sweetness, I couldn't help drinking cup after cup. One of the best things about this type of tea is that it is very economical. You'd be hard pressed to find another tea priced at just under $10.00 for 5oz. I love that they provide profiles their farmers and includes a "message to the world" from them. Here is what the Takeo family had to say:
As much as possible, we’d like to create tea that is as close to its natural state. Are chemicals safe to use in agriculture? We don’t really know, but we feel it is better to be safe because you can’t peel off the skin on tea like you do with fruits. You, our customers, should have the safest tea leaves that we can make.
