Monthly subscription services are a great gift idea (for yourself or someone else) but it can be hard to choose which one to use. Here is a list of some of my favorites.
+Amoda Tea is unique in that rather than blending their own teas, they feature small companies in every month's shipment. The teas that I've tried from them have all been unique and often from companies that I had never even heard of before. They are primarily flavored but all of the teas featured use natural ingredients. I recently had tea with Tegan in NYC, one of the co-founders, and was impressed with her passion and knowledge. You can find a list of all of my reviews of Amoda Tea here.
Price: $12 per month for 3 different teas.
+Handmade Tea offers hand crafted teas each month. Some of the blends that Caleb has some up with have been out of this world. He uses ingredients that no one else would ever think to use. I often take the blends to work once I've reviewed them and lately by co-workers have been drinking them on me! You can find a list of all of my past reviews of Handmade Tea here.
Price: $19.95 for 3oz of tea
+Global Tea Hut is a monthly full color magazine that also includes a sample of tea as well as a small tea gift. The proceeds are used to support Tea Sage Hut, their tea learning center in Taiwan. I can honestly say that it is the most rewarding subscription service that I have tried to date. You can see all of my posts about Global Tea Hut here.
Price: Donation based, $20 minimum. The amount and type of tea vary each month
+JalamTeas focuses solely on puerh. I've just recently subscribed to this service after being impressed by the samples they had sent me. All of the cakes have been interesting and very different from other things that you might find on the market. Jeff Fuchs sources them himself from small villages in Yunnan. You can find a list of all of my past reviews of Jalam Teas here.
Price: $19.99 (plus shipping) for 100g tea cake
Price: $29.00 for quarterly shipments of 125g each
+The Devotea is a great range of teas from my Aussie friend +Robert Godden. They've just recently launched a monthly subscription service for tea drinkers in the US. I love that a number of price ranges are offered so that there is something for every budget. The teas vary from artfully crafted blends to excellently sourced single origin and everything in between. I really enjoy that it is offered in three month installments so that you don't have to commit for an entire year. You can find all of my posts about The Devotea here.
Price: packages ranging from $16 per month to $55 per month
+Yunomi.us offers a tea subscription service that specializes in Japanese teas. The offerings that I've tried from them have all been superior quality and I really enjoy all of the background information they provided on the farmers that supply each tea. You can see all of my past reviews of Yunomi teas here.
Price: $29.80 for 10g of three different teas
