Teavivre Organic Nonpareil Heavily Roasted Tie Guan Yin “Iron Goddess” Oolong Tea

Country of Origin: China
Leaf Appearance: fairly dark, tightly rolled
Ingredients: oolong tea
Steep time: 30 seconds
Water Temperature: 212 degrees
Preparation Method: porcelain gaiwan
Liquor: brassy gold

The taste of this tea was super nutty and toasty with a mellow undercurrent of vegetal and floral notes. The mouthfeel was fairly thick and it did not have any bitterness. As my infusions progressed it also developed a slight smokiness. Although not a weak tea by any means, the finish was soft with a lingering sweetness. Three consecutive steepings had me a bit tea logged but according to Teavivre's site these leaves can go for up to seven. I think that the third round was my favorite as it seemed to be the most balanced. Roasted teas like this one are just the thing for a fall day. Once again, I love how much information that +TeaVivre provides about the farmed that they sourced this tea from. The fact they refer to them by name is something I always look for when making a purchase. This tea is EU certified organic in addition to being certified by the USDA. This makes me feel even better about drinking this tea because the EU's standards are almost always higher than our own.
