Stash Tea Guayusa and Green Tea

Guayusa (pronounced why-you-suh) is a holly tree native to the Amazon rainforest known for its high caffeine content. The leaves of the guayusa were small bits of various shades of green whereas the green tea leaves were long and flat, reminding me of dragonwell. I made this tea in my Breville One-Touch Tea Maker with 212 degree water for five minutes. The liquor was a deep brown color and had a woodsy aroma.

This tea was incredibly earthy, so much so that it almost tasted like puerh. There was also a pleasant vegetal sweetness with very little astringency. After trying several of Stash’s guayusa blends, I’ve found that this herb doesn’t  provide a huge jolt of energy. I just feel a bit more alert after drinking it. It would be a perfect tea to keep on hand for energy emergencies at work. I would definitely recommend this tea.
